About our past month of classes at VDP Studios

Lots of great dance energy!

Tamalyn Dahlal
taught 3 wonderful  Saturday workshops in a row and now is
off to Korea and eventually Zanzibar. She will only be in
town maybe 12 weeks in the next year. She will be doing a
Shimmy Workshop at VDP Studio on Monday Jan 7th 2008  Lets
 shimmy away the holiday pounds!

Drum Solo
Another workshop Erik Brown and myself (Delilah) have been
cultivating has been Drum Solo for Dancers. In the past 2
months we taught it in Las Vegas and Colorado as a workshop
and at VDP as a class series.
We offered it as a 3 week session that meets twice a week at
5-6:15. The idea is to not let so much time pass and keep
pressing the dancer with the rhythms until they are second
nature to her. It’s kind of similar to what happens on retreats.
When there is less time of life’s distractions and the lessons
are more concentrated in time and yet sleep in between, then
more progress is made.

The idea is to have a small class so we are offering it at 5PM.
The dancers that have taken this course have many amazing
improvements in their dancing. It’s really exciting! They are
hearing the drum solo so differently than when they started the
class. They are much clearer in their body interpretation.

Next session
will be offered as a pair of Sat Workshops Oct 20 & Nov 3.
2-4 PM $45 for one and $75 for both in advance
$55 at the door for one. Limited to 12 Max. See calender or
call 206 632-2353.

If there is interest for week days again call and let us know.

Special Performance Class
 with Delilah & Live Music
It’s about cultivating the vital connection between music and
dancer. It is not enough to be a physical body on stage. You
must be an artist and the artist has to be an individual who
is accessible to the inspirations in the moment at hand.
Oct 25th, Nov 1, 8,15
Each week Erik Brown is joined by a different instrument.
Oud ney Violin Zorna. all members of House of Tarab.

Thanks Giving Day
3rd Annual Thanksgiving Belly Dance class 10:30-12:00 ‘Giving
Thanks to a Woman’s Body”. We celebrate together with dance
music and poetry.

SMORGASBORD CLASS
Tuesday at 10 AM
We had dancers say they were going to come and then they didn’t.
There is only 3 dancers in this class most days, so we will have
to discontinue it after this session. Too bad it should be a
good opportunity for women to do something while kids are in
preschool. Or for self employed folks. We just haven’t
advertised very well maybe. If you want to save this class tell
friends and come!

Note not all of this is on the calender yet that’s one reason
I’m writing about it. Great stuff happening!

sep 30 workshops canceled

Monday, September 24th, 2007

Those of you who know me, know that I HATE to cancel anything,
but I am going to have to cancel the ‘Introduction to Belly
Dance” workshop scheduled for September 30 at Mas Uda studio in
Lacey, WA.  I separated ribs a little while ago and although I
am getting around really well and much better, I don’t think it
would be smart to do an intro level workshop.

The mother daughter performance that evening at the Great
Cosine of India in downtown Olympia is still ON (that’s another
part of why I’m canceling the workshop - I want to dance with
my daughter!). DANCING begins at 6:30 and includes the following
pairs: Janaan/Zemira; Amira/Kashani; Razilee/Rayya .  Great
Cuisine is located at 116 W 4th (corner of 4th and Columbia) for
Reservations, call 360-943-3442.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Upcoming Olympia workshops

Sunday, September 23rd, 2007

Here are the dates, topics and instructors for the Second Sunday
workshop series, in the Olympia area.

September 30 (this is definitely NOT the second Sunday, but,
hey, that’s OK!) - a basic intro to belly dance at Mas Uda
studio - contact Kashani 1:30-3:30 $15.  Stay in town for mother
daughter dance show at Great Cuisine of India that evening -
first set is at 6:30.  There will be three mother daughter pairs
dancing.  Second set is about 7:30 and will be solos by some of
the mothers and daughters featured in the earlier set.

October 14 - Indigo - presents -
Adding ballet, jazz and spins to your belly dance – At Dance
Direction, 1202 Black Lake Blvd SW - 2:30-4:30   $25

Indigo will combine her knowledge of Yoga Balancing postures,
Core Strengthening exercises with Ballet / Jazz Basic Leg
strengthening and footwork exercises to bring you a Dynamic
Workshop. This workshop will help to increase your ability as
a dancer to dance gracefully and

lightly upon a stage. To increase your balance will help you
reach farther on a stage, increase your confidence as a
performer and of course help you  master those lovely spins.
We will explore a variety of spins, balance, postures and core
strength to help maintain spins. There will be some
combinations included in this workshop adding spins and ballet
work to Basic Egyptian BellyDance Movements. Add grace, posture,
poise in with this ancient dance form and you will be dynamite!

November 11 (holiday weekend) -
Halima will present a shimmy choreography - learn a complete
dance from one of the masters of dance in the NW - HALIMA!!!!

December  9 may be a ‘crafty’ workshop at Mas Uda studio -
